When The Matrix was first released in 1999 it blew audiences away with its insane visual effects, cool complex story, and badass action sequences. We had never seen anything like it before! It changed the way Hollywood made movies with the tech that had to be invented to pull off some of those jaw-dropping action sequences. According to actress Jessica Henwick, director Lana Wachowski will “change the industry again” with The Matrix 4.
During a recent interview with CB, Henwick explained:
“There are definitely moments on set where Yahya [Abdul-Mateen II] and I look at each other and we just go, ‘Matrix 4’, Those pinch me moments. Yeah. Lana is doing some really interesting things on a technical level in the same way that you know, she created a style back then. I think she’s going to change the industry again with this film. There’s some camera rigs that I’ve never seen before that we’re using. That’s probably all I can say for that.”
Well, hell! I’ve been wondering how they would advance things for this movie to give audiences another unexpectedly mind-blowing experience. I can’t wait to see what they’re doing!
Wachowski co-wrote the script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell, and the film stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith reprising their iconic roles as Neo, Trinity, and Niobe. The film will also star newcomers Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Toby Onwumere, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is rumored to be playing young Morpheus. Jonathan Groff also has a role in the film along with Daniel Bernhardt, who is returning to play Agent Johnson.
Reeves previously said that Wachowski has written “a beautiful, beautiful script.” He went on to reveal that the film will tell a love story that he calls “inspiring” and shared that “it’s another version of a call to wake up. It entertains, great action, and all will be revealed.”
The Matrix 4 is currently slated to hit theaters on December 22nd, 2021.
