We have the first trailer for you to check out from the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the film that includes the final performance from Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, who sadly passed away a couple of months ago. The film stars Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis (The Help, Fences) in the title role of Ma Rainey, and Boseman as trumpet player Levee.

The film is directed by George C. Wolfe (Nights in Rodanthe) from a script by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, based on the play by August Wilson. Here’s the synopsis:

The film, based on August Wilson’s award-winning play of the same name, the story follows “trailblazing blues singer Ma Rainey, portrayed by Davis. Set in 1927 Chicago, the movie grapples with issues of race, music, relationships and the exploitation of Black recording artists.”

The late Boseman portrayed “Ma’s boyfriend Levee, a young, ambitious trumpeter who aspired to make his own mark in the music industry.”

Check out the captivating trailer below, and watch Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom when it hits Netflix on December 18th.
