Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden has officially launched from Dungeons & Dragons. This is a new adventure for the popular tabletop RPG that takes adventuring parties to the far north of the Forgotten Realms and looks like a lot of fun.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but the Frostmaiden Auril has essentially taken the land of Icewind Dale hostage creating a never-ending winter. In addition to the adventure, there are the features for Goliaths if characters want to make one of those, beautiful maps, and even player secrets that you can incorporate to add another level to your players. Personally, I’m a big fan of players having secrets, so it’s kind of cool to see some pre-made secrets that players could use.
Looking through this adventure, it feels more horror-like. Not gothic horror like Curse of Strahd, not demonic horror like Descent into Avernus, but more like scary isolation horror like The Thing. Between the creepiness of an eternal winter and the encouragement to give your party members secrets really just makes me feel like games could very easily get very spooky.
