It’s a pretty surprising world when games that were first designed for mobile gaming move to actual consoles, but here we are! Piffle is a great version of a simple and already love style of game. However, it adds a lot of depth, really great features, and interesting levels that a lot of other games don’t have.
The gameplay is simple, shoot a stream of little cat balls to bounce around an enclosed area hitting various different boxes, obstacles, and bonus points. It is similar to Peggle in a few ways, and many mobile games like this already exist to some capacity. But it doesn’t steal from those games, instead, Piffle uses those ideas and adds many layers to them and changes to them to make a unique experience. The various different powers that players can unlock and use, the different types of cats and abilities players can shoot at the boxes and the many different levels culminate in a pretty full package game. The game’s progression is well thought out and slowly teaches a player how to best use each power/bonus to their ability and beat the level.
Another super great feature about the game is it’s cute and has a very friendly aesthetic. Little cats, cute animals, and inanimate objects with simple faces go a long way. But they never distract from the straight forward gameplay which allows players to enjoy their environment while staying focused on the game itself. The cute music and fun sound effects also make the game and overall vibes really an appealing and entertaining experience.
The main issues that I have with this Switch version of the game are the number of levels and the price. Players can spend a lot more money to unlock a lot of levels, or they could just play basically the entirety of the game on mobile for free with ads. After paying its current price, players should be given more content than this base version, and it doesn’t feel like a worthwhile purchase at the moment unless this game is purrfect for you.
Piffle is a really fun game and is fairly high quality when it comes to arcade games. If you are an avid arcade player and want something to have fun with and pass the time, this is a good choice. I’m just not overly happy with the current price tag for the amount of content that is provided.
