Sacha Baron Cohen has pulled off a pretty major feat during the pandemic. He filmed his sequel, Borat 2, under the radar, without letting almost anyone know! Last month, there were reports that Cohen had been spotted in Los Angeles filming something, but now we know that the movie is in the can, and he has even screened it to a select few.
It’s unclear what studio or streamer is backing the film, or who else was involved in bringing it to life. But it was no doubt a tougher shoot, as Cohen no longer has the luxury of anonymity he had in the first films he made. He had the element of surprise in his first round of movies that made him easily evolve into the characters he portrayed, but he would now have to be a little more creative to keep his cover. I guess the emptier streets of the pandemic catered to him a bit.
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006) was Cohen’s highest-grossing original film, so fans will definitely show up for a second film. We don’t have a release date yet, but hopefully we will see it soon, if he has already begun screenings. Check out the video someone caught of him filming in L.A. below, and let us know if you’re excited for Borat 2.
