You and Jane the Virgin actress Jenna Ortega is the latest actress to join the cast of Scream 5. She joins franchise castmembers David Arquette and Courteney Cox who are reprising their roles as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers. She also joins the recently cast Melissa Barrera (In the Heights).
Neve Campbell, who portrayed Sidney Prescott in the franchise is still in talks to join, and everyone involved hopes that she comes back.
Scream 5 is being developed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. They are directing the film from a script written by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not).
As far as story details go, all we know right now is that “it will follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”.
Scream creator Kevin Williamson is on board as an executive producer, and when talking about the film he said:
“I’m excited to reteam with David and work with Jamie, Guy and Radio Silence on the next Scream. Their take on the movie is both original, inventive and honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. Ready or Not was my favorite horror film of last year and I can’t wait to see what their amazing talents bring to the Scream universe. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
Ortega will next be seen in Yes Day starring Jennifer Garner and The Babysitter: Killer Queen with Bella Thorne. The actress recently wrapped filming on Songbird opposite Demi Moore and Bradley Whitford.
Scream 5 will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina.
