First-look photos for Sex Education season 3 confirm a release date in September. Netflix’s British comedy-drama series follows Otis (Asa Butterfield), an insecure teenager, his mother Jean (Gillian Anderson), a sex therapist, and his openly gay best friend Eric (Ncuti Gatwa). Despite his own sexual inexperience, Otis is able to advise a classmate of his, Adam Groff (Connor Swindells), the headmaster’s son, through a sexual crisis with the second-hand knowledge he’s acquired from his mother.
Otis subsequently starts a secret sex therapy clinic at his high school at the behest of Maeve (Emma Mackey), a social outcast who develops an unlikely relationship with Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood), one of the school’s more popular girls. The third season of the show was scheduled to hit Netflix in January 2021, but the pandemic threw a wrench into those plans. This long wait was exacerbated by the fact that season 2 ended on an unexpectedly ambiguous cliffhanger, which frustrated much of the fanbase.
Now, Sex Education fans can mark their calendars as the long wait for season 3 will soon be over. Netflix released four first-look photos for the show’s third season, along with a premiere date of September 17. The photos show the aforementioned Eric, Otis, Maeve, Aimee (who will reportedly find feminism this season), and Adam, who is in uniform and appears to be back at Moordale. Check out the brand new stills below:
These first-look photos provide a look at Moordale High’s new spiffy dress code, which will be instituted by the new headmaster played by Jemima Kirke of Girls fame, who is pictured above. Other newcomers include Cal, a nonbinary student played by Dua Saleh who will instantly clash with Moordale’s newly appointed, stricter headmaster, which can also be seen above. Lucius Malfoy actor Jason Isaacs will join the show as Peter Groff, the former headmaster’s more successful older brother.
Season 3 is also expected to jump ahead in time and carry over numerous unresolved storylines from the previous season, including the infamous deleted voicemail, Jean discovering she is pregnant, and Eric and Adam’s declaration of love for one another. Sex Education is one of the few diverse and sex-positive shows geared towards teens, and now fans finally know when its eagerly awaited third season will air.
