Michael B. Jordan is the star of the Creed film franchise, breathing new life into the Rocky franchise as the late Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis Johnson Creed, a boxing champion that is walking in his father’s footsteps with the help of Rocky Balboa. The first two films were great, and a third is in the works at MGM, with Jordan returning to star alongside Phylicia Rashad as his mother. But Jordan may be doing more than starring and executive producing this time around.
In a recent report from Deadline that mainly talked about big box office films considering a streaming release, Creed III was mentioned in passing, saying that “Michael B Jordan is considering to direct.” This has been chatted about for a while, even by Rocky franchise producer Irwin Winkler, who mentioned the potential opportunity in his book A Life in Movies: Stories From 50 Years in Hollywood, saying, “I promised Michael B. Jordan that he’d get his chance to direct Creed III. Last year in a conversation with our Creed star Michael B. Jordan, I offered him the opportunity to not only star in, but also to direct Creed III.”
This is still preliminary, and not confirmed, but I can’t imagine Jordan turning the opportunity down. If he has any interest in directing, this would be a great situation for him to get his foot in the door. But either way, I am excited there will be one more film. Are you looking forward to the sequel?
