Not long ago, several major media outlets reported with certainty that Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany was officially cast in Marvel’s She-Hulk Disney+ series and that she would be taking on the role of Jennifer Walters, a.k.a. She-Hulk.

A lot of fans were super happy about the news! It’s actually pretty great casting! Mark Ruffalo even welcomed the actress to the Marvel family with the following Tweet:

Well, according to Maslany, there’s no truth behind the news! She flat out denies that she is involved with She-Hulk! In a recent interview with The Sudbury Star, when asked about the big She-Hulk news she surprisingly said:

“That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand. It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.

“Yeah, I don’t know how these things get — I don’t know, I don’t know. You know better; I have no idea. (Laughs.)”

This is certainly interesting because from what I understand Marvel actually did cast her in the role. Maybe, she’s been completely sworn to secrecy and is just flat out denying it to avoid any other kinds of questions. Maybe things fell apart during negotiations and she dropped out? I don’t know, but I was super happy to learn that she was cast in the role. It’d be a shame if that didn’t work out.

The She-Hulk series centers on Jennifer Walters (Maslany), “cousin of Bruce Banner who inherits his Hulk powers after she receives a blood transfusion from him. Unlike Bruce, however, when she hulks out, Jennifer is able to retain most of her personality, intelligence, and emotional control.”

Kat Coiro will helm the pilot along with several other episodes. She will also serve as an executive producer. Rick and Morty writer Jessica Gao leads the writer’s room for the series.

Coiro has worked on several well-known shows in her career including Netflix’s Dead To Me, Showtime’s Shameless, and FX’s It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. She also directed Life Happens and the upcoming film Marry Me starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson.

She-Hulk is one of several shows that Marvel is developing Disney+ including Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight.

What do you think about Maslany taking on the role of She-Hulk?
